[Images from 31.12.22 showing the site after clearing: #188992, #188993.] [Image taken on 5.5.22], Grosvenor Road junction with Bootham Crescent, York. One of the final views of the former site of York City FC (www.yorkcityfootballclub.co.uk/ and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bootham_Crescent) before it is redeveloped. News story from Monday 4 April, 2022: yorkmix.com/york-city-sell-bootham-crescent-for-7m-heres-what-will-happen-to-the-site-and-the-money/ . I am concerned about the likely massive increase in motor vehicle movements during the redevelopment of this site and the adjacent former Duncombe Barracks on Burton Stone Lane (local press: www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/19975268.york-duncombe-barracks-burton-stone-lane-site-cleared/ and the architects' site: www.mikhailriches.com/project/city-of-york/) I am also concerned about the resulting increase in motor traffic following the redevelopments in the residential area here (see: #183230) that is predominantly Victorian terraces the front doors of which open directly onto the pavement. The streets between Burton Stone Lane and the Terraces of Grosvenor, Scarborough and Filey that run alongside the York-Scarborough rail line are very narrow. With pavements so restricted that family or social groups walk single file and people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs can't pass or be passed. Driving speeds are too fast for the circumstances: people necessarily walking or wheelchairing on the road are intimidated out of the way (into the infrequent and tiny gaps between parked vehicles) and people on cycles are intimidated by motorists who tailgate yet can only be heading to a residential address... and who therefore have no need or excuse to drive fast - walking pace; or picking up from the two pizza takeaways in the backstreets; and/or rat running.) The importance of this area to people who cycle (or who could) is illustrated by the number of cycle direction signs - see streetview location accompanying this post and; #182419.
